Description
Handmade Black and Turquoise Ruffled Scarf with Gold Edging
This scarf is an extremely soft and lightweight neck warmer. It is crafted using the Nuno Felt technique with a printed chiffon as a base or carrier fabric. The black wool is 100% Superfine Merino. Most who are sensitive to wool often find Merino very comfortable to wear. The gold highlights are from Muga silk, collected from cocoons found in the wild. That luscious golden color is the natural, undyed color of the silk fiber.
The scarf is reversible, with a black on one side, and printed chiffon on the other. There is a ruffle on 3 sides, leaving the 4th end with less bulk that allows the scarf to lay in a smooth, soft manner. This scarf is a good example of the Nuno Felt technique. Note the interesting texture with Turquoise silk highlights.
(Flower accent sold separately.)
Care:
The scarf can be hand-washed in cool water with a mild soap, rinsed and laid flat to dry. Be careful not to agitate, machine wash or place in the dryer. Shape or block the scarf to measure 9” x 33”. Use the wool setting on an iron if necessary. The outer edge of the ruffle can be gently stretched while pressing to enhance it’s fullness.
*FYI Notes:
Nuno Felting is the process of combining wool fiber with silk fabric to produce a strong but light weight item. It is also used when a fun texture is desired. The fact that wool shrinks and silk does not makes an interesting rippled effect. This scarf is a good example of Nuno Felt.
